Before You Leave, Ask What You're Looking For.

We have a life that holds together.
Work to go to,
a home to come back to,
people near enough to call.
The bills get paid, the days get done.
From outside, it all works.
Everything sits where it belongs.
But somewhere,
quietly,
without our noticing,
a question keeps coming back.
“Is this the life I wanted?”
✦
Sometimes it comes after we move to another country.
Sometimes after a wedding.
Sometimes in the first months with a newborn.
Sometimes after years at the same desk.
Sometimes in the middle of life,
when what mattered most
no longer weighs what it used to.
And sometimes we don’t even know
what happened.
We only know
something isn’t right.
✦
The first pull
is to change something outside us.
A new job.
A new city.
A new love.
Starting over.
I took this path too.
I thought if we were free,
if we could keep moving,
if the road were ours,
I would be happy.
So I built a camper
for my small family,
and for months we lived on the road.
Then I thought,
if I could earn a living
without leaving my child alone every day…
So I opened a guesthouse.
Then came the other ifs.
If I had never emigrated…
If our relationship were different…
If we’d chosen another country…
If I had roots…
The ifs came back at night,
and each time they brought a question:
If I don’t know why I’m unhappy,
how can I know
the next change will make me happier?
Maybe what we call “a country”
is really a place
where we could belong.
Maybe we left a job
not because of the work,
but because the meaning had drained out of it.
Maybe we blame a relationship
when we stopped knowing, long ago,
what we ourselves need.
And maybe not.
Sometimes it really is the job.
Sometimes it is the relationship.
Sometimes the city.
But between staying and going
there is a step
we usually walk right past:
Understanding.
✦
A candle doesn’t end the dark.
It was never meant to.
It stays lit in the corner,
so that slowly
you can see what is where.
It doesn’t tell you which door to open.
It doesn’t tell you which door to leave by.
✦
CandleWithin is for this stage.
A place to stand still,
to think,
to look at your life from a few steps back.
No one here tells you
take this job,
leave that relationship,
move to that country.
We have other questions:
What truly matters to you?
Who have you become?
Which choices carried you here?
What do you need,
and which hopes are still alive in you?
And maybe most of all:
what you take to be the problem —
is it really yours?
✦
We begin with knowing,
not with tests.
Not the personality quiz
that hands you a label at the end.
Before we measure anything,
we need room to think it through.
About what you value,
about what we all need as people,
about relationships,
work,
emigration,
belonging,
meaning,
and the big choices that quietly shaped the life you’re living now.
You don’t “discover” yourself
by reading one article.
Knowing yourself has no finish line —
it’s a road you keep walking, every day.
✦
When the picture clears a little,
you can look more closely.
In love:
What matters to me,
and how much of it is seen here?
Is this a pattern I keep repeating?
In work:
Does this work give me something,
or slowly wear me down?
Is it the job itself,
the place,
this stage of my life,
or something else?
In leaving a country:
What would I gain by going?
What would I leave behind?
Would going bring what I’m missing here?
These questions don’t decide for you.
They let you decide
with your eyes
a little more open.
✦
Life doesn’t come in separate pieces.
Work and love and leaving home,
family, friendship, health, meaning —
each one woven through the others.
Sometimes what looks like trouble at work
has its root somewhere else.
A job that once fit perfectly
may not fit the life you have now.
A move abroad
can mend some things
and bring new trouble with it.
A relationship that once felt whole
may need a second look,
now that you have changed.
CandleWithin slowly helps a picture come together:
who I am,
what matters to me,
what life I want,
where the life I have today is far from it —
and after each change, what really happened.
✦
We don’t design your life for you.
There is no single “right life.”
What feels like freedom to one person
leaves another with nowhere to stand.
What one calls success,
another calls exhaustion.
What makes one person happy
may mean nothing to the next.
There is no right version of a life,
only your own —
and we stay beside you while you come to know it.
✦
Maybe you’ll find some answers.
Maybe you’ll find it really is time
for a new job,
another country,
a second look at a relationship.
Or maybe none of these.
And maybe, most of all,
you’ll notice that some of what you wanted for years
was only what you “should” have wanted —
and was never yours.
If you feel it’s time,
we’re here.
The rest of the way
is still yours.
